School Counselor, Ms. Takahashi

 

Educational Background


Mrs. Takahashi graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She then received her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Houston/CLC and earned an all level School Counseling Certification. 

Mrs. Takahashi became a Licensed Dependency Counselor, a Certified Chemical Dependency Specialist and a Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor as well. Mrs. Takahashi is a certified professional school counselor who loves working with the middle school students of West Briar!

Teaching Experience:


Ms. Takahashi taught 2nd, 4th and 6th grades as well as English as a Second Language to adults. She has taught students as a counselor at the elementary, middle and high school levels.  She has given presentations at local, state and national level conferences to parents and community members. 

Professional Organizations:


Ms. Takahashi has served the local professional organization, Houston Counseling Association (HCA) as Emerging Leader, Secretary, Historian, President, Senator, Board Member and more. She has received many chapter service awards and in 2009 received the HCA Outstanding Counselor Award.  Ms. Takahashi was also a board member of the Houston School Counseling Association (HSCA).


On the state level, Ms. Takahashi was named as an Emerging Leader of the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) and served as the newsletter chairperson and Senator for three years, and a co-director for the TCA state conference and received the Distinguished Service Award in 2008. 


On the national level, Sharon is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).  In 2008, Ms. Takahashi was recognized as a national semifinalist for the ASCA School Counselor of the Year Award.

On a personal note:


Ms. Takahashi has been married since 1974 and has two children.  She has been active with her church, the P.T.O., and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.  Ms. Takahashi has also been very involved with the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, where she has served as Leader, Assistant District Manager, Council Delegate, National Delegate and was honored as Outstanding Leader, Outstanding Volunteer and earned an Appreciation Pin.  In her leisure time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, swimming, ballroom dancing, traveling, arts/crafts, baking and genealogy.
