Counseling and Guidance Program Overview

Our Mission

The mission of the West Briar Counseling and Guidance program is to provide a caring, nurturing environment for our students to maximize their academic, emotional and social development to become responsible, productive community members.

Our Goals
  • To provide guidance curriculum in a systematic way to all students
  • To address the immediate concerns of students in the personal/emotional, social and academic areas
  • To assist students in monitoring and understanding their own development
  • To assist all students in transitioning from school to careers
  • To engage in program development and to provide system support
  • To utilize technology to enhance the delivery of services
Four Components of a Developmental School Guidance and Counseling Program
  1. Guidance Curriculum                                                       
    Promotes awareness, skill development and application of skills needed in everyday life.
  2. Responsive Services                                          
    Addresses the immediate concerns of students.  Provides prevention and intervention
  3. Individual Planning                                                        
    Assists students in monitoring and understanding their own development.  Aids students in setting goals and developing individual plans.
  4. System Support                                                
    Includes program delivery support with parents, teachers and the community.
